Cold World On Fire

from Alarm Spring by David Garza

/

about

In Autumn of 2001 I moved to DTLA
725 South Spring Street
Downstairs from legendary Chicano artist Gronk
He would make me coffee & paint while I would play guitar & sing.

"Tagalong Shadow" & "Black & Tan" were my first DTLA recordings
The drums on "More Beats"is me playing a cumbia groove
I was curious if cumbia worked in LA or if it was TX mojo only.

Of course it wasn't called DTLA back then
I called it Browntown because everyone was brown.

I made this album in my new space on 4 track cassette
I had a CD burner & would dub copies to sell at my weekly Largo gigs
Decorating each with black sharpee.
